Decoration is only one part of the garment finishing process. For denim and washed cotton garments, the final appearance depends not only on prints and silhouettes but also on washing techniques and finishing treatments.
For our denim projects, pattern development, cutting, and wash development are handled in-house at our Foshan production facility. This allows fabric selection, finishing treatments, and decorative details to be developed and evaluated against the same approved references rather than treated as separate production stages.
Denim washing techniques — Including rinse wash, enzyme wash, stone wash, bleach wash, acid wash, and vintage finishes. Each treatment is developed to match an approved reference garment or visual sample. Our denim washing techniques guide explains the visual effects of different washes and what buyers should specify during development.
Localized fading and distressing — Including whiskering, hand scraping, patching, and repaired distressing. The quality of these effects depends more on their placement, intensity, and execution than on the technique’s name alone. For more detailed guidance on placement and contrast, see our guide to whiskering on jeans.
Garment dyeing and vintage washing for knitwear and T-shirts — Cotton garments can undergo dyeing and washing treatments to create distinctive shades, subtle fading, and a naturally worn-in appearance. Learn more about the differences in our garment-dyed vs. vintage-wash T-shirts guide.
Because washing treatments can affect color, hand feel, and finished garment measurements, sampling should be carried out using the intended fabric, construction, and fit. The final wash effect and garment dimensions must be evaluated and approved before bulk production. Use our denim wash sample approval checklist and dry vs wet rubbing colorfastness guide before signing off the finish, then explore custom denim options.
